Some snacks and a jar of fruits sitting on a picnic table.

Introduction

Poply set out to be the soda you bring camping, not the one you grab at a gas station real fruit flavor, a name that sounds like the can opening, and a target audience that's more likely to see it at a campsite than a vending machine. The brief was simple on paper and harder in practice: build a fruit-mascot system fun enough for a cooler at a campfire, without falling into the same "smiling fruit" template half the category already uses.

Challenges

The better-for-you soda aisle is crowded with near-identical walking-fruit mascots, so differentiation had to come from attitude and craft rather than the basic idea. Each flavor also needed its own distinct personality banana, strawberry, and blueberry couldn't just be palette swaps of the same character while staying unmistakably part of one family from a distance.

Final thoughts

We gave each fruit character its own pose and expression instead of a single template flipped across flavors, which lets the lineup feel handcrained rather than generated. Production stayed lean with a two ink system, and the cans photograph well in the outdoor, unpolished settings the brand actually lives in campsites and coolers, not studio shots.
